Information for learners

Who is this course for?
The qualification provides learners with an in-depth understanding of the knowledge and skills needed when working directly with children and young people in school and college environments. You will gain theoretical and practical knowledge in order to plan, deliver and assess understanding across a range of learning activities. It will also develop the skills and behaviours in order for you to lead groups of children in learning and support children with special educational needs effectively.

What is required from the employer in the workplace?

  • Commitment to the learner being able to attend compulsory aspects
  • Observations of the learner conducting activities within school. Training will be provided for line managers and joined observations conducted with the tutor in the first instance
  • Online termly progress review meetings with tutor and learner to assess progress against apprenticeship standard
  • Completed Health and Safety declaration, named safeguarding and equalities links, if not a TEFAT school, to ensure the learner remains safe whilst at work

Assessment process

Ongoing assessment through:
  • Assignments
  • Practical observations
  • Professional discussions
  • Reflective logs
  • Work products

Upon completion of the taught course the tutor, in conjunction with the learner’s line manager, will assess suitability for End Point Assessment in line with the learner having evidence to meet all aspects of the apprenticeship standard.

End Point Assessment will be undertaken by an End Point Assessment Organisation, agreed during the contract stage. An external assessor will visit your apprentice in school, or via Zoom, in order to review:
  • Conduct observation of practice
  • Review portfolio of evidence to meet standard
  • Hold professional discussion regarding portfolio

What will you learn?

An embedded part of the Level 3 Teaching Assistant apprenticeship standard is the CACHE Level 3 Supporting Teaching and Learning Qualification for which there are 16 units of learning.

Entry Requirements

All apprentices need to be in paid employment for the duration of the apprenticeship. 
Apprentices on part time hours would have the duration of the course extended in relation to the hours they work.

All apprentices are required to have Maths and English GCSE, grades A-C (4-9) by the end. If learners do not have GCSE or equivalent we offer Level 2 Functional Skills in Maths and English online, which is also fully funded.

Delivery

  • Weekly one hour online live lessons
  • Two face to face workshops on supporting Maths and ICT held regionally in a school
  • Online termly progress review meetings with tutor and line manager against apprenticeship standard
